Leveling Up Your LinkedIn Posts & Launch of Clubs!

Ever wondered how you can level up your LinkedIn posts?

This week, I was mentoring some members in the Deep Human Club. They had asked for personalised feedback on their LinkedIn posts and I thought I’d share some of my tips for posting on LinkedIn here as well.

1) Photos with faces are great – the LinkedIn algorithm prioritises faces, but even better are unposed, close-up shots. Have candid moments in your pictures. This makes it more natural than the thousands of group shots out there.

 2) Your first sentence makes or breaks a post – it has to be a hook that gives people a reason to read, like, “Come with me for a insider’s peek to…” Posts that tell you what goes on behind-the-scenes are always fun!

 3) LinkedIn posts that do the best have only ONE message, so stay sharp and focused.

 4) Thank the people you need to thank at the end of your post in a postscript and tag them, as not everyone will scroll to the end.

 5) Try to post work subject posts Tuesday to Thursday in the mornings or lunchtime. On the weekends, you can post more general or fun posts.

 6) Do not join any LinkedIn engagement pod, where people all commit to liking each other’s posts. The LinkedIn team told me they ban or penalise such behaviour as they can tell it is not organic reach.

 7) After you post, stay around for the first hour or so and reply to all the comments you receive. This pushes up the algorithm. I tend to do this in batches. First, I like all the comments, then 15 minutes later, I come back and reply to some, then reply to more 15 minutes later. This way, you stimulate the algorithm.

 8) Always ask people a question at the end so that they will comment, like “Which option do you prefer?” People love to engage, and that makes the experience more interesting for everyone!

 9) This next tip is a bit tricky so do use this tip with care. Some people are very tactical in that they deliberately do something either controversial or slightly wrong, so that people will comment on it. One way is to make evident spelling or grammar mistakes, like using ‘your’ instead of ‘you’re’. However, what I may do is instead to pick a hot button topic that people feel strongly about. For example, New York Times posted something about whether it is rude to ask people to take off their shoes when they go to someone’s home and the two warning camps in the comments made the post go viral!

I once highlighted an article that had an older employer quarrel with a Gen Z person who was interviewing. The younger person wanted to change the interview to an online one, and both generations were going to town in my comments section, I ended up getting asked to go on radio to comment on my viral post. That said, please don’t be controversial just to go viral – what you post has to be related to what you want to be known for or your expertise. In my case, it is careers, so it is relevant!

10) Always be clear on your success outcomes – figure out what you want to achieve from LinkedIn. Are you there to make friends? Get industry contacts? Raise your visibility to clients? Or are you there just to have fun and let off steam? What would make LinkedIn a win for you?

I will be running a LinkedIn Masterclass in October that will show how I incorporate work with personality. Look out for it.

What other tips do you have for posting on LinkedIn? Share them!

I have been having an absolute blast as a newly minted club owner with our Deep Human Club and Deep Human VIP Club members, both online and offline! We hosted a welcome event for our members, and the sense of belonging that emerged was profound, thanks to everyone's courage to share, and willingness to be benevolent witnesses for each other. We saw, listened, and made space for one another, and then the next day, we worked on goalsetting together.

We are all a part of each other’s journeys. We will give, and we will receive, and this is what will make all of our journeys amazing.

Much love

Crystal
