Our Right For Now Choices

In this week's podcast episode, I had a conversation with Jianhao Tan on his remarkable journey that led him to become Singapore's pioneering YouTube sensation with seven million fans and staggering monthly views of 150 million. When I asked him what milestone he was looking forward to most in the days ahead, Jianhao said it was his daughter's school performance. I’d have to say that I had not expected that response, even though I could absolutely understand where he was coming from. It is so heartening to see someone so attuned to their inner self, and investing the time and effort accordingly to make what they value their priority. He said he does this, because he doesn’t want to look back in the future and regret missing out on his daughter’s childhood and growing up years.

Many of us fantasise about rewinding the clock, wishing for more moments with loved ones, different career decisions, or alternative life paths. Yet, amidst this maze of regrets and what-ifs, we must acknowledge that there are no definitively right or wrong decisions, only those that align with our current circumstances and aspirations. These are what I call "right for now" choices. These right for now choices are decisions we make for the different seasons of our lives.

Yet, if we do not want to live a life always looking back at what we should have done or said, perhaps we can spend time on what grows us and expands our ability to give. Cultivating intentionality is key. Engaging in practices like daily journalling or gratitude exercises can foster mindfulness and clarity. And like Alex Ikonn, our guest for our inaugural I Am Well event said, these are practices that need to be done daily, just like how we don’t one day decide that we will stop brushing our teeth, just because we’ve already done it for 40 years.

Your spirit is longing to be communicated to, for you to find time, and to make space for. What does your heart long for? What is your destiny calling for? Are you taking time to communicate with what really matters inside? Delve into your inner realms, confront limiting beliefs and uncover your hidden potential.

Life really is a journey of constant recalibration and seeking that dynamic balance. Each milestone, no matter how grand or modest it seems, contributes to our lives. Let us define our own milestones and successes. Slay at work or witness your child perform as The Little Mermaid in her school play. Do either if you choose to, or do both if you want. Do what serves you, and remember, we are all doing the best we can, right now, for ourselves.

Much love,

Crystal
