Insider's Guide: Goal-Setting Success
A Question From Crystal
What if we treated ourselves with the same care, attention, and respect that we give to our best clients?
Think about your most important client. You would meticulously plan meetings with this client to make sure the session is productive, and do all you can to help them achieve their goals. Why do we not do the same for ourselves?
One Way You’re Sabotaging Your Goals
I get thousands of messages from people who have shared their struggles with goalsetting. Some said they were overwhelmed by too many goals and ideas, others said they were intimidated by the blank page and didn’t know where to start. Some said that they were fully stuck in their comfort zone and needed a loving push towards growth, and others felt they were constantly criticising their own efforts and it was impacting their self-worth.
To help, Dr. Gregor Lim-Lange and I constructed the Goal Sabotage Quiz (GSQ) where you can find out which of 6 Goal Saboteur archetypes you belong to. Take the quiz here to find out how you get in the way of your goals.
One Personal Growth Model We Are Focusing On - The Immunity Map
In my workshop with the Deep Human Club this week, I talked about Immunity to Change, also known as the Immunity Map, a concept and tool developed by Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey. The model explores why we do not achieve what we truly desire. It is not that we are not committed to the goals we set, but we are more committed to our hidden competing commitments. This creates the "immunity" to change, acting as a protective mechanism against perceived risks. We have to identify and understand these hidden commitments and assumptions, and test these assumptions through small experiments to gradually dismantle our immunity to change and align our behaviours with our goals.
A Book We Recommend
Immunity to Change: How to Overcome It and Unlock the Potential in Yourself and Your Organization (Leadership for the Common Good) by Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey.
Next Steps: Be Your Own Best Client
Start taking yourself and your goals seriously. Become your own best client and commit to your goals with the same dedication you give to your clients. This approach cultivates authentic, unshakeable self-confidence and self-respect.
Remember, the journey to your best self starts with you being impeccable with your own word and taking consistent, meaningful action. Treat yourself with the care, attention, and respect you deserve, and watch your life transform.
Much love
Crystal
