Crystal's Notes 18 April.
Your Work Isn't Speaking For Itself.

I hear this often from high performers: "I just want to let my work speak for itself."
I understand the sentiment. It feels honest and humble, like the right way to operate.
But in today’s workplace, your work cannot speak for itself. You have to speak for it.
I’ve worked with talented, capable professionals who were passed over for promotions or overlooked for opportunities, and they end up being quietly frustrated that their contributions weren’t being recognised. Almost every time, the missing piece wasn’t performance - it was visibility.
Career advancement isn’t decided purely on merit. Former Harvard Business School professor Herminia Ibarra found that how you are seen and known within your organisation matters just as much as what you actually deliver. The people who rise aren’t always the most technically skilled, they’re the ones who are known, trusted, and present.
Visibility isn’t about being loud or self-promotional. It’s about speaking up in meetings and contributing ideas, not just executing them. It’s about asking thoughtful questions at town halls and showcasing your team’s achievements. It’s how you build relationships across functions an communicate clearly what value you and your team are creating.
And if you’re ever in a room with senior leadership, you need to hold your own - to advocate for your ideas and to fight for your team. Because if you can’t market yourself now, how will you fight for the people who depend on you later?
What I tell clients who feel uncomfortable with visibility: it isn’t about performing or pretending but about self-advocacy and being a clear, confident communicator of your value.
And that starts from within.
The reason most people shrink from visibility isn’t due to a lack of skill, but a lack of confidence. They freeze before speaking up, second-guess their ideas before sharing them, or let imposter syndrome convince them they don’t yet deserve to take up space.
This is exactly what we address in Deep Human Confidence. We help you speak up in rooms without freezing, present your ideas with clarity and gravitas, and build the kind of presence that makes people take notice. We also go deeper, working through the limiting beliefs and imposter syndrome that have been keeping you quiet.
Because you've done the work. Now it's time to be seen doing it. You can find all the details here.
We also have other transformative programmes coming up. Deep Human Leadership is our 2-day immersive workshop on self-awareness, self-mastery, and mastering people skills, designed for leaders navigating rapid change who want to connect more deeply with their teams. We also host two virtual practice sessions afterward so you can integrate what you've learned with ongoing guidance (Early Bird Access).
And Deep Human Influence: a practical masterclass on building gravitas, influencing senior stakeholders, and navigating workplace politics (Early Bird Access).
Much love,
Crystal
