We are living in a time where information is cheap and data is everywhere. Data no longer gives you an edge, discernment does.

And this matters in the office far more than most people realise.

Even in the most conventional, non-creative industries, the people with discernment and taste stand out.

They’re the ones who can reach for an interesting metaphor or tell a story that actually lands, rather than recycling the same business cliches.

They’re the ones who can look at three AI-generated decks and immediately sense which visual approach will resonate with a client.

They’re the leaders who write emails people actually want to read.

The team members who bring a distinctive point of view into strategy discussions, instead of just repeating the AI summary of what’s already been said.

My daughter was watching me answer AMAs and said, “Ma… why do your followers use you like ChatGPT?”

I told her it is about trust.

All of us have people in our lives who, when they recommend a book, a place, a decision, a perspective, we listen, because over time, they’ve shown good judgement and taste.

In the age of AI, we’re going to see trust, taste, and storytelling become some of the most valuable things humans bring.
