Unlearn the Silence & Shrinking

In Asia, many men often struggle to open up to others, or feel unsure how to even start those conversations. They carry enormous pressure silently, behind a mask that says everything is fine.

Recently, a male founder said to me, “I feel envious of you and Rachel. All you female entrepreneurs are one gang. You show up for each other’s launches, hype each other up online, and share resources.” And he’s not wrong. My phone is full of WhatsApp groups with women asking for help. We ask for advice and support on everything, from business to burnout to TCM resources.

Meanwhile, the messages I get from men are usually quiet and private. “Hey, can I meet you for coffee? I need to talk.” That’s when I know it’s serious, so I always try to see them even though my client list is officially full.

This is why we’re experimenting with a new Men’s Group. It’s a safe space to share, reflect, and support each other, without judgement or performance. We want to see if we can build the same kind of trust and openness that has helped our community thrive.

No More Shrinking

On the other end of the spectrum, I get questions like: “How do petite, baby-faced women hold authority in senior management meetings?”

Here’s the truth: Gravitas isn’t about how you look. It’s about how you lead.
I’ve worked in male-dominated spaces my whole life, and I’ve seen petite female CFOs make entire rooms of senior bankers sit up and listen.

So let’s reframe:

  • Petite is a clothing size, not a leadership identity.

  • Do not mentally label yourself as petite or babyface. You don’t need to look bigger, older or louder to be taken seriously. Find out where these limiting beliefs come from and work on them.

  • Learn how to have executive presence and speak up. What matters is how you show up in your tone, clarity and conviction.

We all have to fight smart battles and be assertive when we need to. Embrace ‘warrior’ energy and not ‘worrier’ energy. If you don’t know where to start, get a coach or get some training in executive presence.

Much love
