Crystal's Notes 28 March.

The Question I Ask Before Every Decision.

As I've gotten older, I've started judging almost everything through the lens of one simple question:

Will this bring me closer to my life goals?

If the answer is no, it's not important. Simple as that.

It sounds straightforward. But living it is one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Because the things that pull us off course rarely look like distractions. They look like obligations. Like politeness. Like being a good friend, a dutiful daughter, a team player. They look like opportunities we feel guilty turning down.

Psychologist Roy Baumeister's research on decision fatigue shows that the more decisions we make throughout the day, the worse our judgment becomes. Our mental energy is finite. Every unnecessary decision, every obligation we say yes to out of guilt, every social commitment we honour out of habit, quietly drains the cognitive and emotional resources we need for the things that actually matter.

Viktor Frankl put it beautifully: "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."

But most of us never find that space. We react. We comply. We default to what's expected.

I know because I used to do this too.

I used to spend energy impressing people who didn't matter to me. Seeking approval from people who would never give it. Showing up to things out of obligation rather than genuine desire. And all the while, the things I truly wanted, the goals that lit me up, kept getting pushed further down the list.

Until I started asking the question.

Will this bring me closer to my life goals?

Not just in the big decisions. But in the small ones too. The meeting you don't need to attend. The group chat draining your energy. The commitment you made out of guilt six months ago that no longer serves you.

Becoming intentional means learning to pause. To ask the question. To have the confidence to act on the answer even when it disappoints people.

And that last part is where most of us get stuck.

Because knowing what you want is one thing. Having the confidence to stand up for it, to say no without guilt, to choose yourself without apology, is something else entirely.

This is what we work on in Deep Human Confidence. We help you identify the limiting beliefs and old stories that keep you saying yes when you mean no. We give you the tools to manage imposter syndrome, speak up under pressure, and act from a place of genuine self-trust.

Because the life you want isn't out of reach. It just requires the confidence to keep asking the question.

You can find all the details for Deep Human Confidence here.

We also have other transformative programmes coming up, like Lead from Within with Dr Harold and Leanne Robers, a 2-day retreat on resilience and self-mastery on 2nd and 3rd May (only 2 spots left).

And Deep Human Influence: a practical masterclass on building gravitas, influencing senior stakeholders, and navigating workplace politics (6 spots left).
