Public Speaking Hacks You Need
Does the idea of public speaking give you the jitters? You’re not alone. According to an American study, 75% of people fear public speaking more than death itself. The good news is that you don’t have to stay stuck in that fear. Here are some tips from your work bestie to help you present with confidence and eloquence.
Record and Review: Watch yourself speak and take note of filler words or fluff. Aim to make every word count and sharpen your delivery.
Breathe: Calm those nerves with a quick breathing exercise. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 7, and exhale for 8. This will centre you before you step on stage.
Reframe Mindset: If you’re feeling butterflies, tell yourself, “I am excited! It is my body activating itself, and I’ve got this!”
Master Your Tone: Confidence comes from how you speak as much as what you say. Try using a downward inflection at the end of your sentences to sound more assertive and in control.
Make Eye Contact and Smile: Eye contact paired with a smile can do wonders for your presence and will boost your charisma.
State Your Intentions (But Don’t Over-Explain): Share what you’re about to say, but avoid over-explaining. Confident speakers don’t feel the need to over-justify themselves—trust in your message.

Prep Your Tech: Test your slides, videos and microphone. Always have a backup plan too! When I have speaking engagement, I always have with me a back-up sound system, and a back-up laptop preloaded with the slide deck I am using!
Think Big Picture: Your stage presence isn’t just about words—it’s the whole package. Ensure how you look and what you present support your message and strengthen your impact.
Know That You Have A Voice: Public speaking doesn’t have to feel like an insurmountable challenge. There’s a way to unlock your confidence, clarity, and impact. Don’t settle for feeling inadequate—step up and find your voice!
